It Wasn't Me
Introducing the Lesson Plan
This lesson plan introduces children to two principal characters, Gwana and Bun, focusing on their roles and associated skills through storytelling and interactive activities. It aims to teach children about rules and hospitality while engaging them in character identification, story sequencing, and self-reflection exercises.
- Characters and roles: Gwana is the green Lina, Keeper of Rules, responsible for ensuring rules are followed; Bun is the brown Lina, associated with cooking and hospitality tasks in Fledge Town.
- Story introduction and engagement: The story “It Wasn’t Me!” is used to explore rule-breaking, with children encouraged to recall key questions Gwana asks to identify the rule breaker.
- Supporting characters and objects: Other Lina birds such as Bear, Voss, Rush, and Pip appear in this story and various objects from the story are introduced for sequencing activities.
- Interactive sequencing activity: Children listen to the story and then order images of story elements like a whistle, berry pie, and tree to reinforce memory and comprehension.
- Self-reflection worksheets: Worksheets help children assess how much they relate to Gwana and Bun by considering their roles, tools, and skills, using arm stretches and marking scales.
- Dot rating system: A dot scale (0-4) lets children quantify how much they are like the characters, with a limit of 12 dots for all characters met across lessons, culminating in creating their own Lina bird with coloured feathers.
- Rule-related activities: Worksheets and discussions focus on why rules exist, examples of rules, and roles of rule enforcers, along with a road sign matching activity to teach practical rule recognition.
- Additional engagement tools: The plan includes a card colouring game linked to characters, and a flexible question-and-answer activity to encourage story recall and pupil reflections.
